Work in Progress Wednesday: Exploring Colorways and Fabrics

Work in Progress (WIP) Wednesday: Block 2

Hello my Quilty friends!

Welcome back to another WIP Wednesday! I'm so thrilled to share the next Rose block in this English Paper Pieced quilt project with you.

Exploring Colorways

This week, I'm continuing with the same block pattern but experimenting with various colorways and fabrics. What a great opportunity to use up those fabric scraps we all have stashed away. I love how by simply changing up the colors and patterns in fabric, each block can take on a completely new look!

Want to join me? You can make this 8" EPP Rose block, too. The SVG cut file for this block is available for free to all my email subscribers. If you haven't joined yet, make sure to sign up to get access to this the file and more quilting goodies in the future!

Instructions

For those of you using a Cricut or compatible cutting machine, the SVG file will make your prep work a breeze. You can read about cutting out the shapes and fabric with a Cricut Maker here in a previous post. If you don't have a cutting machine, you can use iron on leave in fusible shapes or card stock shapes, including hexagons, half hexagons, triangles, and diamonds. I love the fusibles for saving time. You just leave them in when you're done.

Here are some tips:

  1. Preparation: Gather your shapes and fabric pieces.
  2. Basting: Baste your fabric onto the paper shapes. You can use either thread basting or glue basting, depending on your preference. I like glue basting.
  3. Piecing: Start joining the shapes together. For me, the ladder stitch is the best option. The stitches are almost invisible. To see how to put the block together, check out this blog post for a detailed tutorial with photos.
  4. Pressing: Once your block is pieced, give it a good press.

Tips for Success

  • Play with color: Don't be afraid to experiment with bold and contrasting colors. Sometimes the most unexpected combinations make the best blocks.
  • Share your progress: We all love seeing your work! Use the hashtag #WIPWednesdayQuilt on social media so we can all cheer on each other's progress.
