WIP Wednesday: 8" EPP Rose block

WIP Wednesday: 8" EPP Rose block

My Works in Progress (WIPs)

My new WIP Wednesday Tradition

I have LOTS of works in progress, or WIPs, as a quilter. With so many wonderful fabrics out there, it's hard to pass up a new project.

I recently decided to give some love and much need attention to my WIPs. I also decided to dedicate one day during the week to work on them. That day is Wednesday!

The Project for This Week

While I may bounce around between a few different projects on WIP Wednesday (why would this day be any different, right?), this 8" English Paper Pieced Rose block is what I'm choosing to work on THIS week to kick off WIP Wednesday's.

EPP Shapes Needed for the Block

I cut the various templates I needed on my Cricut Maker.  I cut fusible shapes rather than cardstock.

I needed (1) hexagon, (18) half hexagons, (24) triangles, and (6) diamonds for the block.

Hint: They really aren't fusible fleece, but there's no setting for what I was using and the interfacing setting doesn't cut through properly. So, it was the best setting for me to use.

I used a pink Fabric Grip mat and rotary blade.

In the following photo, the excess stabilizer has been removed after cutting so that only the shapes remain.

I Love Saving Time....More Time to Quilt!

Fusible shapes are a COMPLETE game changer as far as I'm concerned! I love these because you can leave them in when you're done. It saves SO much time!

Cutting Fabrics

I cut some of the fabrics on my Cricut Maker 3/8" larger than my shapes to cover them.  Mostly I'm using scraps from my Patches of Friendship cover quilt.

Here are a few half hexagons. I don't usually leave this much space between them, but that's just how it worked out this time.

Again, I removed the excess fabric after cutting before I snapped the photo.

Glue Basting

I glue basted all my shapes using a glue pen.  You can certainly use needle and thread, but glue basting is easier on my fingers and saves time, too.

That's all for today

Whew! That's about all I can accomplish today.  Next Wednesday, I'll start joining the shapes together.

Want to work on the same block with me? I'm offering a free Cricut friendly svg cut file of the shapes featured in today's WIP that also includes fabric templates.

This  is an 8" English Paper Pieced Rose block. I'm using 1" fusible shapes rather than card stock. To make it, you'll need (1) hexagon, (18) half hexagons, (24) equilateral triangles, and (6) 60-degree diamonds.

Get my free Cricut friendly svg cut file for this block.

Join me!  I can't wait to see what you've been working on.  Don't forget to share yours in the comments!

Happy Quilting!

“What kind of fusible do you use on the cricut? That’s a beautiful design.”

I use a fusible stabilizer made by Floriani. Thanks for stopping by, Wendy.
